I photographed game one of the NCAA Atlanta Regional Baseball Tournament as Georgia Tech faced off against Austin Peay at Russ Chandler Stadium on Friday June 3, 2011. The game was very close all evening with just 11 hits and three runs combined by both teams. In the fourth inning Austin Peay went up by one as John Hogan ripped a liner over a leaping Jake Davies at first and into the right field corner for a double to second. Hogan then advanced to third on a Reed Harper single to right and scored on a Matt Wollenzin sacrifice fly to center. Georgia Tech answered in the bottom of the inning as Zane Evans moved around the bases to score. The nail in the coffin came with one swing by Austin Peay’s Jordan Hankins in the top of the seventh, a home run to right center off of Tech reliever Matthew Grimes. Georgia Tech, who is the No. 1 seed for the tournament, will play Southern Mississippi at 3 p.m. on Saturday in an elimination game after their 2-1 loss tonight.
