Sunday started super early for me. I awoke before dawn and headed to Wills Park in Alpharetta for the 2013 IronKids Triathlon. The event featured 1,300 children from ages five to 15 from all over the United States competing in swimming, cycling and running. The first wave of racers started a little after 7 a.m. and the day got underway. With over 50 events held on a global basis held each year, the mission of IronKids is to inspire and motivate youth through the sport to lead an active, positive, and healthy lifestyle. The 2013 IronKids schedule in North America features over 30 events, allowing the opportunity for young athletes to compete in multiple races within their region from the months of April through November. Since its inception, IronKids has seen over 60,000 participants, including seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong, and Olympians Hunter Kemper and Laura Bennett.
