After traveling to Portland last summer I discovered Ground Kontrol, a classic arcade/bar/awesomeness in one of the neighborhoods of the city. I came back to Atlanta and thought this was my million dollar idea and that Atlantans would flip over the concept. I then found out that someone had beat me to the punch. Tucked away on Edgewood Ave. lies Joystick Game Bar. The staff is amazingly friendly and the drinks are strong and tasty. Not to mention the fact that if you are an old school arcade fan this is the best place in the world. Soft neon from stand up titles such as Donkey Kong, Galaga, Rampage, Mortal Kombat II and X-Men light half the bar while the other half is chock-full of comfy seats with board and card games placed within easy reach. It’s a great date night spot and one of the places featured in this week’s Atlanta Journal-Constitution Three of a Kind photo feature.
