Now I want you to think deep, excited, testosterone fueled announcer voice. Saturday, Saturday, Saturday at the Georgia Dome! Monster Energy and the American Motorcycle Association present Supercross World Championship riding! Yes I got to check out my first Supercross race at the Georgia Dome on Saturday. I have been to what I like to call Monster Truck Madness and I have been to the Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton to cover NASCAR but I can now cross dirt bike racing off of my list. I think two of the few things left are desert racing and demolition derby when it comes to motor sports but they will eventually be taken care of too. Hundreds of racers zoomed, slid, jumped and otherwise made their way around the dirt track which covered the floor at the dome as they participated in qualifying heats throughout the afternoon leading to the major races for the FMI World Championship later on in the evening. It wasn’t nearly as loud as I had pictured it (either that or I have completely lost my hearing) as the high pitched, almost whiny, engines that power the bikes flew past me on the floor level. Dirt flew and so did the racers as they caught major air on jumps set up throughout the track. It is an experience that I will not soon forget.
