A Little Bit of Country

Friday, March 7, 2014

I’ve always been intrigued by the country. That may be because I grew up in the suburbs and have always lived in an urban area. My fascination came to a forefront with my first real newspaper gig at the Forsyth County Newspaper. Now this was close to 15 years ago when a lot of the county was still farmland and not quite so developed as it is today. I’d spend hours traveling down the back roads looking for standalone features and I loved passing by and photographing the farms, barns, livestock and dilapidated buildings that I would find. Old tractors parked in older, worn down barns. Cows, chickens, pigs roaming around their pens and pastures. So today was pretty awesome as I made my way to Ball Ground for another assignment. I had some time to take it easy and not rush and was able to stop in a few random places along the way to grab some shots. I’m completely intrigued by an old building with an entrance sign above the gravel path leading to an old two-story building that read Gold & Grass Farms. I haven’t been able to do a lot of research as of yet but I haven’t found a lot on it. It will definitely be worth another trip out to Ball Ground to see what else I can find.
