Camping in Pike National Forest Colorado

Friday, July 9 to Sunday July 11, 2016

One of the perks of being in Colorado is the wide open spaces. There are all sorts of outdoor activities and adventures. One such adventure happened this past weekend as I explored Pike National Forest with friends.

Just a few hours west of Denver, Pike National Forest is nestled in the mountains and has dispersed campsites throughout, allowing for some semi private camping.

The stars came out on the first night and it was gorgeous sitting underneath a blanket of shimmering lights with a fire and my camera.

The sun was up early the next morning allowing for a beautiful view of the mountains surrounding the forest. Although a little warm with no tree cover, the day was filled with adventure and food.

As we left the national forest, the road winds past this (and numerous other) old homesteads and cabins. The rustic lifestyle of Colorado is definitely apparent as buildings such as this one reminds me that this part of the country is still considered the Wild West.
