Perseid Meteor Shower at Rocky Mountain National Park

Saturday, August 13, 2016

After an excellent afternoon checking out the annual Denver Flea I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park. The plan was to get there around dusk and stay for a few hours to try and capture the Perseid Meteor Shower. With camera and tripod in tow I set up camp around Bear Lake. The moon made things a little difficult as it was super bright out. Bright enough that I could see my shadow on the rocks surrounding the lake. The other challenge was waiting out the clouds that scooted across the sky as weather tends to blow through the mountains at different times during the day.

I spent three hours at the park waiting and wondering and unfortunately didn’t see one meteor that evening. I still came out with a couple of interesting shots that almost look like they were shot in the day time. Alas the moon and her wiley ways.
