Holbrook, Arizona and Dogtown Lake

Thursday, July 16, 2015

To finish off quite a day of traveling and picture taking I wanted to make it closer to the Grand Canyon. That meant heading for Holbrook, Arizona and eventually Dogtown Lake which is about an hour south of the canyon. As I was passing through Holbrook with my window down I heard a beat and music as I made a turn. I came to find out that the Holbrook Summer Dance Group performs traditional Native American dances in a small park every night during the summer. I spent a lot of time just enjoying such an unexpected moment and waited until the appropriate time to snap a couple of frames after the dancing was completed. I then hustled across part of the state to Dogtown Lake. I got to the campground after quiet hours began and set up my space in the dark. After finishing I looked up into the sky and decided I wouldn’t head to bed quite yet. The stars were brilliantly shining and I got my first really good look at the Milky Way!
