Brookhaven Town Hall Meeting

I photographed the second of two town hall meetings for the Brookhaven Patch newspaper on Thursday, November 17, 2011. The meeting, attended by close to 200 residents, was held at Montgomery Elementary School and reviewed a feasibility study after a bill was introduced by Rep. Mike Jacobs that proposed Brookhaven become its own city. These are my favorite images.

"I think we need more time to decide," said Mathews. "They're taking the commercial areas but not the residential ones and that's not fair."

"First of all our services will be improved especially police and roads and I believe we'll have lower taxes."

Chris Hagler, left, and Marilyn Peatman discuss the informational pamphlet on a feasibility study regarding a bill introduced by Rep. Mike Jacobs that would allow Brookhaven to become its own city at Montgomery Elementary School on Thursday, November 17, 2011. "That's what we're here to find out," said Hagler. "Whether or not Brookhaven becomes its own city is something to at least worth listening to." Peatman chimed in "I've come in feeling positive but I want to hear the numbers before I decide whether it's a good idea."

John Higley, left, and Pete Landt look at an information pamphlet regarding Brookhaven becoming its own city before a town hall meeting at Montgomery Elementary School on Thursday, November 17, 2011. "When you look at this map it's way too big of an area," said Higley. "We all want lower taxes and that's what is important to me. Leaving Dekalb County is not a problem."
