I photographed Camp Timber Ridge, one of five working Girl Scout camps around metro Atlanta, for a Three of a Kind photo feature for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Wednesday, June 13, 2012. Camp Timber Ridge is both a day camp and an overnight camp where Girl Scouts come to learn crafts, compete in athletics, earn badges, and meet friends. Camp Timber Ridge was founded as Camp Civitania in 1924. As one of the South’s oldest girls’ camps still in operation, the camp has a very rich heritage combined with the best in modern resident camping philosophy. Nestled in Mableton, Georgia and with more than 220 acres of forest and streams the camp offers many opportunities for hiking, nature lore, outdoor cooking and other camp craft skills.
