Eight years ago, Kevin Garrett, an internationally award winning photographer, was on his way to a job for Coastal Living magazine, when his vehicle was rear ended on I-75 near Valdosta, Georgia. The accident turned his family’s life upside down. Kevin’s wife, Echo, a freelance writer, had to quit her job as editor-in-chief of Atlanta Woman magazine to care for him. Since that time, Kevin has made a remarkable recovery. He went back to work, traveling to countries across the world a winning even more awards. He still has difficulty reading, due to short term memory issues, continual ringing in his ears and constant pain but Echo says they feel blessed. On Sunday I got the chance to meet the Garrett family and photograph them for a Personal Journeys story in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
