Atlanta is cold in February…especially wearing nothing but your underwear. And that’s just what a few hundred people found out on Saturday during the third annual Cupid Undies Run in Midtown. I headed down to Ri Ra Irish Pub as people were registering for the one mile fun run that raises money for the Children’s Tumor Foundation. The pub was packed with people drinking and mingling before the start of the run and I have to say it was a little awkward having to make my way through the crowd of people wearing nothing but their skivvies. As time drew near for the run to begin people headed outside to line up for the start and Mother Nature seemed to find a irony with the sun shining but a brisk wind picking up to chill the racers as they huddled together for warmth. It was cold for me and I was wearing long pants and an insulated hoodie so I can only imagine. The runners made their way around the short course and I will give it to them, the crowd waited outside in the cold until every one of the participants crossed the finish line. They didn’t wait long to head back inside to start the party again with live music, dancing and more drinking. It was one of the most interesting and entertaining races I have ever been to and if you want to raise money for a good cause I could think of worse ways to do so.
