A section of road overlooking Historic Fourth Ward Park in Atlanta was shut down on Saturday as racers and their wooden cars lined the street. Helmets were donned and goggles lowered as the pint sized drivers entered their vehicles for the start of the 2nd annual Cool Dads Rock Soap Box Derby. Around 20 competitors in all made last minute adjustments to their homemade vehicles, including jeeps, batmobiles and even a Chitty Chitty Bang Bang lookalike, before the flag went up. Even with a few crashes and close calls, the derby was a hit amongst the 200 or so spectators who came out to witness the power of ingenuity and teamwork between fathers and their children. Don’t worry if you missed it Saturday, there are already plans in the works for next year!
