For the second year in a row as a fundraiser, the residents along Mead St. in Decatur have put on a Mardi Gras parade. This year proceeds from the festive event go to help the Decatur Education Foundation to provide music grants to students. A few hundred people came out on Saturday for an afternoon of merriment and revelry. Residents marched down the street to the tunes of instrument players that give the bands in New Orleans a run for their money. Beads were tossed out by the handfuls to people watching the procession. I love Mardi Gras. Many a year in my youth was spent in New Orleans during February watching the parades and taking to the streets at dark to celebrate an ancient tradition!
