Last Friday was pretty awesome! I had the opportunity to sit in on a lantern making workshop at Color Wheel Studio as families came together to create works of art for the upcoming Decatur Lantern Parade. The workshop was led by lantern making guru Chantelle Rytter, who has helped organize not only the Decatur Lantern Parade but also the Atlanta Beltline Lantern Parade. The Decatur parade itself will be on the 15th of this month and up until then there will be about a dozen workshops to where you can learn how to create your very own lantern. Using bamboo, cellophane, tape, glue, light and colored paper 12 families created lanterns that resembled anything from a U.F.O. to turtles and other pets as well as hot air balloons and intricate star patterns. Watching their creations come to life from start to finish was pretty cool!
