I was honored this week to be given the chance to see the Fabulous Fox Theatre in a way that few, outside of the crew, have ever seen. The theater off of Peachtree Street is steeped in a rich history and anyone who has seen a performance within its halls knows that it is special.
I pushed some of my own comfortability right off of the bat as the first stop behind the scenes was 70 feet above the main stage. Metal slats, pulleys and rigging make up The Grid, which is where the support for backgrounds and stage pieces are reinforced and secured. The next stop was the catwalk that runs above the stage arch. Getting a bird’s eye view of the theater was very cool. Thankfully I was then led to the lower sections of the theater. The basement and sub basement are filled with by gone era equipment that make up some of the history of not only The Fox but of Atlanta as well. The next to last stop was up to the projection room to see the history of shows painted on the black walls of the room. Finally I was allowed to climb out on top of the marquee out front to get an up close inspection of the famous sign that adorns Peachtree St.
