After leaving Idaho I scooted across Montana on my way to Wyoming and Yellowstone National Park. In a few days I would be heading back east, homeward bound. But not yet. I hit Highway 287 as the rain let up and the sun broke through the clouds, making its way to the horizon.
I stopped because of the brilliant yellows I saw on the surrounding countryside. I wanted to capture that color and the feeling it gave me before the light was completely gone. After taking a few frames, I turned to get back into my car when I saw a brilliant rainbow breaking through the clouds just down the road. It was a beautiful sight being on a deserted road with all of this color surrounding me.
I wound up spending the night at Beaver Creek Campground about 20 miles outside of Yellowstone. I was on the cusp of the new moon so it was a good time to try and catch the Milky Way again. Not as brilliant as my time in Death Valley but still a peaceful way to spend the evening looking at the stars.
