2016 Dia del los Reyes Celebration

Sunday, January 10, 2016

Each year the Atlanta History Center hosts an annual Dia del los Reyes celebration. Also known as Three Kings Day, the celebration is a nod to the last day of Christmas.

Lovers of carols and Christmas parties know that this season has 12 days, packed with golden rings, calling birds and various kinds of gentry, musicians and domestic workers. Most of the time the 12 days are thought to end on Christmas Day but that is not really the case. The days, which if you start singing the song is really quite catchy, actually begin on Christmas Day and end. Jan. 6. The final day, known as the Feast of the Epiphany, is also called “The Adoration of the Magi”. Another song immediately pops into mind… “We Three Kings of Orient Are” Hence Three Kings Day is born and although this Sunday was not technically the 6th, what can you say but close enough. Food, music, dancing, art lessons and more were on the docket as a few hundred people came out to celebrate the last of the holi-days.
