Summer is officially over. I’m sorry to say it but it’s true. Children have returned to classes in and around Atlanta. Atlanta Public Schools and Cobb County students returned to classes on Monday, followed by most of the metro area on Tuesday. I woke up before the sun Monday morning to head to Davis Elementary School in Marietta. The administrators and teachers had a surprise planned for their students. A pirate surprise! Dressed in their swashbuckling best, the staff greeted students with their best ARRRRRR as they arrived by buses and cars. Kindergarteners made hooks from tin foil and plastic cups before going on a scavenger hunt to get to know their new school. First graders were given pirate worksheets. Fifth graders, well the fifth graders know the drill. Organize their supplies, receive their textbooks and get ready to learn!
