The Stitch Atlanta

There has been talk the past few years of redesigning a section of The Connector in Atlanta. Since its inception, I-75 and I-85 have divided Midtown and Downtown from each other and there has been no way to bridge the gap. That is until Central Atlanta Progress and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District came out with a study in 2016. The idea is to stitch the two sections of the city back together by taking a section of The Connector from West Peachtree Street down to Piedmont Avenue and creating a tunnel for the highway a mile and a half long. The tunnel would then allow for around 14 acres of top development with connecting streets and buildings between the two neighborhoods.

Right now it seems to only be a study but if the Stitch ever becomes a reality it will change the face of Atlanta.

If it happens, The Stitch, could reunite midtown and downtown by covering over the Connector allowing for more building and a reconnection of two parts of the city. The Stitch would start here at West Peachtree near the Civic Center MARTA Station.

The Connector would bridge the gap between Midtown and Downtown Atlanta. You would no longer be able to see 85 from West Peachtree down to Piedmont.

The face of Courtland St. at The Connector would probably change drastically if The Stitch became a reality.

Fences would no longer be necessary if The Stitch ever happens.
