Last week the weather was absolutely beautiful. A chill was in the air in the mornings, the sun was shining and it seemed like the perfect time to check out some cool hiking spots around Atlanta. Monday I headed over to Lithia Springs to walk the trails at Sweetwater Creek State Park. I found this gem, near Six Flags, almost on accident around three years ago. The wooded trails (the red one in particular) meander near the banks of Sweetwater Creek as it eventually passes by the New Manchester Mill ruins. New Manchester Mill was a textile mill that was destroyed during the Civil War. As of now, the interior of the remaining structure is protected by fencing but there are a few opportunities throughout the year to go on a ranger guided hike that will let you into the interior. There were some other hikers along the trail on Monday and all of them were in the same good spirits I was. It was a great way to start the week!
