Week of Food: Day 5

I photographed a bunch of restaurants for the Virginia-Highlands Patch at the end of last week. In doing so I have decided to post a week of food and restaurant photos. So for Day 5, the final day of this series, I am featuring Dark Horse Tavern. For years Dark Horse has been known as a bar and club, with 10 High downstairs, and not really thought of for food. Three months ago the management at the tavern hired a new chef, revamped their menu and if you haven’t been in a while, you may be surprised by what you find. These are my favorite images of Dark Horse Tavern.

Dark Horse Tavern is located at 816 N. Highland Ave. and offers patrons table and booth seating, a two-story outdoor covered patio, a full bar upstairs and a music venue called 10 High downstairs with a separate full bar.

Dark Horse Tavern serves up the grilled salmon topped with a cool cucumber sauce with sauteed asparagus and a parpadella temple with pasta, cream and asiago cheese.

Dark Horse Tavern serves up the tex-mex eggroll with cilantro, cajun chicken, roasted corn and roasted peppers with an avacado cream sauce.

Dark Horse Tavern serves up the shrimp tapas with pesto shrimp on a bed of cucumber spaghetti sauteed in a dill, shallot and garlic sauce.
