Atlanta has a deep and rich history that dates all the way back to 1837 when the state of Georgia needed a terminus to a rail line leading to the midwest. From its small beginnings to the major metropolitan area that it is today, the city has always been a cultural mecca. Atlanta has played a role in the Civil War, the Civil Rights Movement and historical and contemporary art movements and today I would like to feature the High Museum of Art in Midtown. The High houses over 13,000 different rotating pieces of art in its permanent collection as well as featuring different traveling installations throughout each year. Currently the museum is featuring paintings by Dutch artists including one of Johannes Vermeer’s masterworks “Girl with the Pearl Earring” as well as work by Rembrandt, Hals and Steen.
