I really thought I was in the wrong place. I had driven through neighborhoods full of old houses to get to a small cluster of buildings that resembled an old hospital. But I had found it. The Atlanta Center for Medical Research is nestled in a quiet residential area but it is the largest facility of its kind that the city has ever had. When a pharmaceutical company is ready to start clinical trials around Atlanta this is where they come to. Making images inside the facility was a little difficult due to all of their non-disclosure agreements but I wound up with a few that are worthy of being published in the Atlanta Journal. The center has been completely renovated in their new space. The halls, offices and exam rooms are all clean and freshly painted, the lab and pharmacy areas are well lit with cabinets of medications and new equipment and trial participants waited in the lobby or nervously paced the halls.
