A Cappella bookstore is nestled on Haralson Ave., a quiet neighborhood street near the corner of Dekalb Ave. in Atlanta. Opened in 1989, the store has moved a few times but to this day is still the only independent general bookstore in the city limits. I met Frank Reiss, the owner of the shop, and got to sit in as author Jesse Goolsby made an appearance in the small backroom that serves as the signing area when authors stop in for a visit. Throughout my time spent at the store multiple people came in to peruse the books on the shelves looking for new novels or ordering something hard to find. Even for a Monday, the store saw a steady stream of customers, which to me speaks volumes for the independent company trying to survive when box stores seem to be taking over the world. So go ahead and check out A Cappella when you’re next in the neighborhood and support your local businesses!
