I have many memories of the Georgia Dome. I have photographed many events at this once great stadium that used to stand off of Northside Dr. I have gotten turned around on more than one occasion, looking for the media entrance beneath a labyrinth of concrete roads and tunnels. I have witnessed concerts and sporting events, met some of my heroes, watched monster sized trucks smash cars, heard some of the best bands in the Southeast, seen dreams dashed and the ecstasy of victory all underneath The Dome. But that has changed. The Dome is gone and all that remains if a pile of rubble and twisted steel. Mercedes Benz Stadium is the new generation. It is the home to the United and the Falcons. It will hold concerts and performances. There will be feats of strength and amazing moments in sports history will be made on these grounds. The Dome will fade from the city’s memory but not mine.

Piles of twisted metal sit where the Georgia Dome once stood as the process continues to remove the rubble.

Dust rises into the air while the rubble of the Georgia Dome is broken up and removed from the site.

To give an idea of the scale, the toy excavators are actually full size and bigger than a grown adult.
