Like I’ve said over the past month or so, the face of Atlanta is changing. Newport, a developer that has come on to the scene strong, recently bought up close to 40 buildings in eight square blocks of South Downtown. Although there are no plans in the works as of yet, a large area around Underground Atlanta could be changing sooner than you think.

South Downtown may be reshaped after Newport is through. They have bought up 40 buildings within an eight block radius.

Most of this block of Peachtree St. between Alabama and M.L.K. Jr. Dr. belongs to Newport in a quest to transform South Downtown.

Although walled up for the time being, the backside of the Kessler’s building overlooks Broad St. in between M.L.K. Jr Dr. and Alabama.

Yoyo Ferro helped with the makeover of the Atlanta Eye Care building on the corner of Broad St. and M.L.K. Jr. Dr.

This Rexall Drugstore was the album cover for Phil Collins once upon a time. The building is one of the 40 acquired by Newport in an eight block radius of South Downtown.

More of the buildings along Broad St which belong to Newport are in the process of being made over to look like Tokyo for an upcoming movie shoot.

The mural along Broad St. is one of the draws of the area spelling out residents names that the muralist met during his time here from France.

Although the Star Hotel property on the right corner is not a part of Newport’s repertoire, the majority of the block on Mitchell St. is, and it has great views of the Mercedes Benz Stadium.
